ParameterCategory | SpecificIndicators(ConventionalIndustrialGrade/FoodGrade) | Description |
Chemical Formula | CaCl₂ | Inorganic compound consisting of calcium and chlorine elements. |
Appearance | White or off-white flaky crystals, brittle and easy to break | Color varies slightly with purity; high-purity products appear whiter. |
Purity | Industrial Grade: ≥74% / ≥94%; Food Grade: ≥99% | Purity determines application scope; food grade must meet national food safety standards (e.g., GB 1886.45-2016). |
Hygroscopicity | Extremely high; prone to deliquescence when exposed to air at room temperature | Must be stored in sealed packaging to avoid moisture absorption and loss of effectiveness. |
Solubility | Easily soluble in water (solubility: approx. 74.5g/100mL at 20℃); slightly soluble in ethanol and acetone | Slight heat release occurs during dissolution; aqueous solution is neutral or weakly alkaline. |
Melting Point | 772℃ (anhydrous state) | Can melt at high temperatures; molten form is electrically conductive. |
Boiling Point | 1600℃ (decomposes) | Decomposes into calcium chloride and chlorine gas when reaching boiling point. |
pH Value (10% Aqueous Solution) | 7.0-8.5 (neutral to weakly alkaline) | No strong acidity or alkalinity; low corrosiveness to equipment. |
Toxicity | Industrial Grade: Irritating to skin/mucosa; Food Grade: Complies with GB 1886.45-2016, safe for food processing | Industrial grade must not contact food; protective gear (gloves, masks) is required during operation. |
2. Road and site snow and ice removal: As a de-icing agent, CaCl2 is spread on roads, parking lots, airport runways, etc. By lowering the freezing point of ice and snow (as low as -50 ℃), it accelerates the melting of ice and snow, and at the same time reduces the re-freezing of ice and snow, ensuring traffic safety.
3. Concrete additives: As early strength agents for concrete, they are added to concrete to promote the hydration reaction of cement, shorten the setting and hardening time of concrete, enhance early strength, and accelerate the construction progress of building projects (especially suitable for low-temperature construction environments).
4. Industrial wastewater treatment: CaCl2 is used to remove phosphates and heavy metal ions (such as lead, mercury, and cadmium) from industrial wastewater. Through chemical reactions, insoluble precipitates are formed to achieve pollutant separation. At the same time, it can adjust the pH value of the wastewater and neutralize acidic wastewater.
5. Refrigerant/cooling medium: Calcium chloride flakes is formulated into water solutions of different concentrations and used as the heat transfer medium in industrial cooling systems (such as chemical equipment and refrigeration units), taking advantage of its low freezing point to maintain the low-temperature cooling effect.
